A glimpse into an Outreach Support Workers role
‘I love my job and I love helping people. It is so rewarding for me to support someone who is struggling and help them grow stronger. To watch someone who has no confidence turn everything around and look forward to a future of possibility and opportunity. I recall supporting one individual who could not speak to me because they were crying all the time. This person would not go out socially and had no self-worth or confidence. They did not believe they had a future and just existed. After our sessions, this person started attending SMHS groups and going out socially. They said, “I had a past, I now live in the present and I look forward to the future”. I was so proud of this person’s journey and all that they achieved.
The SMHS team are fantastic to work with and everyone is so supportive, I would not want to work for anyone else. I wished I had done this earlier in my life’.
